Seasonal detoxification is an essential act of self-care. While it's not often talked about in conventional medicine, toxicity is a very real thing, and detoxification should not be categorized as "alternative medicine". This is routine maintenance. We don't always see them, but we are bombarded with toxins every day through the food, water, air, EMF's, heavy metals, cosmetics, cleaning products, pesticides, our pillows and mattresses, automotive upholstery, and just about everywhere we turn. We also get exposure to toxicity from things INSIDE the body as well; cellular oxidation due to stress, and waste products of viruses, bacteria, yeast, or parasites. When left unchecked, all this toxicity accumulates in the body and create a host of health issues.

Why We Detox
The sad reality is that debilitating chronic illnesses are rising exponentially. As of this moment, only 12% of the US population is considered metabolically healthy. 7 our of 10 people are overweight, with 1 in 4 considered obese. 1 in 2 people in the United States will develop some form of cancer, heart disease, or diabetes in their lifetime. That's HALF the population. Chronic health issues and autoimmune conditions affect nearly 50 million people in the USA alone. Alzheimers has doubled since 1980. Autism is up 30% in the last 2 years. Children are now being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other illness that used to only exist in much older populations. We're seeing massive increases in ADHD and dyslexia. 1 in 68 children born now are on the autism spectrum, a 30% rise in the last TWO YEARS. It is a sad state of affairs, and our healthcare system doesn't seem to be able to do much about it. The uncomfortable truth is that toxins are pretty much impossible to avoid, and everyday they enter our bloodstream and encounter that vital organ who's job it is to clean up the mess - the liver.
The role of the liver is to filter toxins out of the blood, however we weren’t evolved for the amount of toxic exposure we encounter in today's world, which is why so many people are now getting sick. Over time, the liver gets overloaded, which causes toxins to remain in the bloodstream wreaking havoc on our nervous system, immune system, and hormones. It increases inflammation, causes intestinal permeability (leaky gut syndrome), cellular oxidation, and inevitably leads to many of the chronic health conditions that plague our society today. This is exactly why detoxification should be a something we do routinely, just like we clean the filters in our cars, homes, and offices. We must routinely maintain our livers as well.

How Detoxification Works
Detoxification protocols are not a new thing. They have been a part of many ancient healings like Ayurveda and Chinese medicine for many thousands of years. These practices are still alive today and people in these cultures usually live to a ripe old age until they die naturally, free of disease. While there are lots of different detox protocols out there, they’re essentially all doing the same thing in the end.
The liver's natural detox mechanism is a 2-phase process. Phase 1 is the metabolic phase where toxins are metabolized and processed in preparation for Phase 2, where they are made into water soluble particles are excreted as waste. As you'll see form the graph below, many of the "Nutrients Needed" for Phase 1 and Phase 2 detoxification are things you have probably already heard of. They are fairly common nutrients that are supposed to come with our food, but unfortunately, our food is becoming less and less nutrient dense, which is why we call upon supplementation for extra support.
- LOWERING the input of things that slow down your liver's detox mechanism.

The Protocol
The protocol with the 21-Day detox is basically a one week cycle repeated three times. This is what one week on the detox is looks like:
The Diet
Most people are actually surprised at how much food they can enjoy during this detox. That being said, we do incorporate fasting on the first 2 days of every week, although you still get to enjoy the shakes on these days. Fasting, when done in moderation, has incredible health benefits. Fasting greatly ramps up liver detoxification because when the liver isn't busy processing incoming food, it uses all it's energy for detoxification.
The graph below is not an exhaustive list of the food you will get to enjoy, but it will give you an idea as to the many options available to you for meal planning. We're going to be eating whole foods, mostly plant based, healthy fats, and either an animal or plant-based protein depending on your preference. There are no special preparations needed for the detox, although I'd recommend weaning down on habits that you won't be able to take with you like alcohol, excessive coffee, and sugar.
Meal ideas, recipes, and tips or enjoying meals will all be discuss on our community Facebook group. Each person's individual diet can be modified slightly depending on if you want to lose, maintain, or gain weight, or certain food sensitivities. We will adjust your diet to suit your particular goals.
